Save our Seas Schools Marine Programme report

On October 4th, 2015, the ‘Save Our Seas’ marine programme was launched at Beaches Ocho Rios in Jamaica. The programme is a joint venture between Sandals Foundation, The CARIBSAVE Partnership and The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, designed to raise marine awareness and environmental stewardship among students in grades 6 to 8.The interactive and engaging lessons plans cover topics including ‘Coral Reefs and Protecting Our Oceans’, ‘Creatures of the Sea – Marine Mammals and Sharks’, ‘Sea Turtles and Coastal Ecosystems’, and ‘Climate Change’.

To date, the first lesson plans has been implemented throughout the Caribbean to 1401 students, with the children showing great enthusiasm to learn and participate, especially with the activity booklets, Guy Harvey Films and Protect Our Oceans posters.

The programme will continue in 2016 when we will teach children about Sharks and Marine Mammals, Sea Turtles and finally Climate Change and Coastal Ecosystems.
